Star Wars: Fringers
Destaract grew up in the back alleys of the Corellian shipyards. His greatest pleasure was in finding new tech (well, new to him) in the cast off scrap from the yards. Anytime his father found him trying to repair “that damn junk you keep dragging home” he would beat Destaract, sometimes to the point of unconsciousness. He started hiding his finds, and repaired bits, in a seemingly forgotten corner of the shipyards. One day, a few months after his 9th birthday, as he approached his hidden treasure-trove he saw a small heavily armored and armed creature gathering up the best of what Destaract had found and repaired. After a few minutes the creature left, pushing a repulsorlift cart loaded with Destaract’s recovered tech. He followed as stealthily as he could and to his surprise the creature led him to one of the smaller starports and a scout ship that looked to have been around the galaxy a few times. The creature left the ship after a few minutes without the cart and Destaract’s hard won prizes. Destaract decided to sneak aboard and take back what was his. As he prepared to push the cart back off the ship the creature reappeared, closed the cargo hatch and prepped for takeoff. After the ship reached orbit Destaract was routed from hiding by the creature who introduced himself as Val’tark, a bounty hunter from Dantooine. Val’trak explained that he had been aware of Destaract following him back to his ship, but allowed it because he was curious to meet the being that had gathered and fixed so much discarded tech. When Destaract asked how Val’trak knew the scrap was his Val’trak explained that his kind have a very good sense of smell. Val’trak went on to offer Destaract an apprenticeship as someone who is that good with tech and bold enough to try and take back what belongs to them may be worth training. Destaract thought about what awaited him back on Corellia and realized there really was no choice. Over the next ten years Val’trak taught Destaract most everything he knew about bounty hunting and tech. Once Destaract had earned his own IPKC, Val’trak sent him off into the galaxy to start making a name for himself. Even though Val’trak told him that the work he had put into the tech and the bounties he helped bring in had balanced the ledger, Destaract felt as if everything he was, everything he would be, was due to Val’trak and his almost paternal mentoring.
